Let’s talk about Edgar!
Let me introduce you to Edgar Degas. I discovered him through an exhibition titled “The Complete Sculptures of Edgar Degas”, hosted at the Evagoras Lanitis Centre in Limassol, Cyprus.
Edgar Degas was a french artist famous for his work in painting, sculpture, printmaking and drawing. He was as well a poet and a photographer.
Before being part of the Art History, he was an inexhaustible drawer spending his days at the Louvre Museum, copying masterpieces like countless other artists such as Renoir, Matisse or Delacroix.
«You have to copy and recopy the masters, » Degas insisted, « and it’s only after having proved oneself as a good copyist that you can reasonably try to do a still life of a radish. »
I see photography, poetry or story telling as Art. It comes from creativity, conveys emotions and, opens heart and mind.
I have been wondering in the blog sphere and discovered many talented artists whom I admire the work.
If you wish to paint one of the masterpieces at the Louvre, you need to apply for a copyist permit and respect few rules such as your canvas cannot be the same size as the original work of art or, you are not allowed to copy the original artist’s signature, but mention « From the work of… »… Fair enough !
